People-focused
As part of the Croydon Area Remodelling Scheme (CARS) we worked on the redevelopment of East Croydon Station, providing the architectural design and exploring over-station development opportunities. The planned major upgrade presents the opportunity to create a new high quality station, providing a safe environment and maximizing the passenger experience. The improvement to the station will in turn lead to significant improvements to the surrounding public realm, with improved connectivity, creating a new entrance to Croydon.

Inventive
We led the concept design of East Croydon Network Rail Station redesign, as well as the masterplan development and building design of the surrounding adjacent site development. The scheme incorporated two new platforms to increase train and line capacity, redesigned station buildings, canopy, entrance and desire lines through the station.

Responsible
As the station had to remain operational throughout construction, constructability was critical to the success of the project and played a significant role in the design due to the impact on cost and feasibility for the outline business case. Urban realm integration was also critical to both the station and adjacent-station-development design; by leading both the rail infrastructure and intermodal design, as well as the masterplan design, we were in a unique position to find the most appropriate balance.
