People-focused
As one of our five stations for Melbourne's Metro Tunnel, Anzac’s design follows our ‘Open Metro’ philosophy – extending Melbourne’s famous public realm and lifestyle below ground, with fresh air and natural light flooding into generous underground spaces. Anzac Station is inspired by the beauty of Albert Park, the Botanical Gardens, the Domain and its monuments.

Having a great rail network to support people living in the far-reaching suburbs. It's important for us to stay connected.

Inventive
Anzac’s floating timber canopy echoes the greenery of St Kilda Road, presenting as a pavilion in the park. In a first for Melbourne (and possibly Australia), our approach places the ‘main’ entry on the tram platform and introduces underpasses to the Metro Tunnel concourse from each side of St Kilda Road for seamless commuter transit between tram and train and into the precinct.

Responsible
The design creates a generous interchange with the busiest tram junction in the world. A large void creates intuitive connections between levels and opens up the station concourse to the surrounding parkland. Alongside the station’s floating canopy, two further street portals connect to the Shrine of Remembrance and to the Albert Reserve.

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of the land where we walk, work and live.
The design for all five stations as part of the Metro Tunnel is a world-class collaboration between leading design practices Hassell, WW+P and RSHP.
